I have two minutes to write before getting my kids ready for school, and myself ready for work. Here’s what I have to say today.
I will run into and hear from scores of people who will either say out loud, or with their eyes and body language, “I was right to doubt them — they couldn’t pull it off after all,” or, “Turns out you were wrong to believe the Sox would come all the way back, eh? ” My response to them is the same today as it would have been if the Sox had won game 7:
“Believing isn’t about being right or wrong, it’s a way of life. And life’s a heck of a lot more fun when you expect the unreal.”

Yeah, it was a blast believing Lowrie would be able to get us going with two outs in the ninth! Too bad the mojo ran out. We just needed ONE MORE INNING–or to replay that eighth inning with better results. The Rays were fantastic.
It’s funny not feeling as though I’m going to die today. I guess there are lingering effects from our past successes….Feeling like we can share the good luck of having a fabulous team with someone else this year, because I know we’ll be back next year!
The toughest part, it seems, is realizing that I’ll need to live without looking forward to a game for the next 5 months. The days are short and dark.

It’s funny to reflect on the many changes/obstacles this team faced this year and yet there our Sox were again beating on the door of the World Series. Today I am proudly sporting my Sox cap and jacket and am proud of our team for not folding when all the non-believers said they were done and didn’t have anything left in them. We lost to a very good team and I will root for the Rays over Philly but can’t wait for next years ride with our beloved Red Sox. Thanks Rob!
A true baseball purist! Regular Rob shares my opinions. I am not happy the sox lost, but can deal with this. I began with the ’08 sox as I do every eyar in spring training and ended with them last Thursday night at Fenway. We all should be proud of this team that was banged up and worked very hard to get back after being down 3-1 in games. No shame in the ’08 season. Rest up guys and get ‘er done in 2009!
